Elk Horn Cafe in Chama

From day 1 our whole family fell in love with the Elk Horn Cafe, Gloria and her family! We would never visit Chama, NM without agreats night rest at the El Meson Lodge and than a delicious breakfast at the El Horn Cafe!

Great atmosphere, live music, service was a little slow, food was good.

I had the Norteno breakfast and it was great. It looked busy inside but they were able to seat my kids and grandkids in no time. Great service, great food.

Agree with the reviews that describe essentially indifferent, bored, lackluster service, e.g., having to remind the server about several things. Asked for a refill on the water and my mason jar cup was taken and never returned. Service just seems scatterbrained, which is not consistent with the restaurant being almost empty. The food is very much Sysco truck quality food - that is, generic, off-brand, bland. The French fries are clearly frozen. Salsa tastes like it comes from canned tomatoes. Meh. I offer three stars because this restaurant is in a tiny town. In a city, I would say more like a 2, for food quality and service. I came hungry and left full, for sure, but the food is overall mediocre American/New Mexican.They accomodate as able for food allergies, but be prepared to explain everything step-by-step (e.g., what gluten is).

I agree with many of the other reviewers - this restaurant is exceptional. Large portions and a nice mix of offerings that will satisfy the hungriest of travelers. Sit outside if the weather permits and enjoy what a small, beautiful mountain town without hordes of people fells like. Chama is a fantastic jumping-off point for both a family of explorers or just a couple looking for adventure. The canyons east of here are dynamic and the local scenery is peaceful, supreme.

Food was good while the staff and decor offer you a peaceful experience.

Home cooked.meals, friendly and rustic atmosphere. Suzanne made our stop memorable. Didn't have to ask for refills and offered desserts and local info. Worth a try.

My husband and I have been eating here for over 35 years. Their food is always fantastic, the service is great, the atmosphere is welcoming. I can’t say enough good things about Elk Horn Cafe. Part of our family is traveling this weekend to our property in the mountains to spread my husbands ashes. The family will be getting to experience the food as well. Can’t wait to eat there.

Love this place.. Only restaurant in Chama where they're super friendly and the food is amazing.. I suggest skipping everywhere else and heading straight for Elk Horn Cafe

The food was fesh, hot, and good. It was clean and had homey vibe to it. The staff were friendly as well. If I ever find myself in New Mexico again I'll come by

My husband got sick. Hopefully just an unusual event because I really wanted to recommend it as it is where the locals eat.

We go to Chama every year for Chama days and on the way back home on Sunday morning we stop at the Elk Horn Cafe. Their breakfasts are delish no matter what you order.

If you drove past this place, turn around and go back!!! It is a hole in the wall that you do not want to pass up!

We stopped in on Oct. 13, based on the number of cars and motorcycles parked out front. Good food, friendly staff, and clientele, and a cowboy singer in the corner. A great place.

I had the ribs & salad, both were awesome. We will be back.

Was excited to try but was disappointed Took long time to get service. Food was served cold. Burrito was dry...barely any chili and only chicken n cheese inside. Staff was friendly n attentive after food was served probably won’t be they here again but if so would look for another option

Love this diner been going to it since i was little . came in with my family when we were down for a visit . the food was amazing just as good as i remember . the atmosphere is great very much like home .

My husband and I both got burgers and they were juicy and delicious!!! Definitely going here again. Daughter had the sopaipillas and they were scrumptious as well! The service and friendliness were through the roof. God bless this business!!!

A must stop when visiting Chama New Mexico. My family and I were there 2 weeks ago what a quiet small Mountain restaurant. The staff was very nice the food was great the serving size are huge I definitely recommend this place try the pancakes they are awesome.

First time in town and stopped in for lunch. The Sopapilla Deliciouso was wonderful. Couldn't keep my wife out of my plate. Friendly people and a wide ranging menu. And a few cold beers available.UPDATE We stopped back in for breakfast a few days later. Had the haystack with red chili and sausage.

Best breakfast in Chama. Thick, crispy bacon and delicious eggs any style. Fast friendly service and a simple menu. Outdoor seating available.

Great lunch on our third trip. Service slow but place was packed. Certainly will be back.

The prices were rather high. I ordered a Turkey plate. They put very little gravy on the turkey and mashed potatoes and none on the stuffing (dressing). When I asked for extra gravy, I was charged an extra $1.65, very disappointed with this. I don't plan on going there again unless I'm with a group.

Nothing fancy but very good food and super friendly service. A good place to just stop, rest & eat while traveling.

Our waitress was not very good - the other waitress seemed attentive to her tables. Ours couldn't be bothered. The burger was ok, I was shocked to discover the sweet pickles on it!?!? Sweet pickles?? The burger was also a little odd in some way - was it not actually meat? Should I return to chama, I'll probably try somewhere else.

Usually go to different restaurants while visiting Charma but decided to give this place a try. Waitress seemed uninterested in working and food was cold and very sparse on the plate. Food was good even though cold but if I’m gonna spend $30 for two people for lunch I’d at least like the waitress to come by and refill our drinks.

Good place great service. A bit pricey but it chama NM what would you expect. Every thing is over priced in chama gas,food, Groceries, Everything is overpriced.

Cute, rustic. Food was good; we were there for breakfast. Did have to wait awhile to have order taken, but think it was because someone was late. Would go again if ever in area.

6 stars, eaten there twice now, great burgers and fries. Breakfast today at 10:30am, wife had chorizzo omelet and I had "American" breakfast, both with hashbrowns and toast. Best breakfast in long time. Service outstanding both days. We,re here two weeks, wish they were open for dinnerUpdate:Be in Chama a month this year, 2020. Hope we can do dine in July and August

Our motorcycle group stopped by unannounced on Sunday and they were able to seat us all on the spot. Service was excellent and the food was outstanding! Thank you.
